The app has the ability to convert to webp, but this feature is disabled due to the way BigCommerce handles images.
A product image uploaded in webp format will often automatically be converted back to jpeg or png when displayed to your visitors. This is something we have no control over. BigCommerce uses Cloudflare to serve your images, and Cloudflare decides on the final image format.
As a result, uploading a webp image does not guarantee that it will be served as webp, and Cloudflare often chooses jpg over webp.
